The XL Air is a very impressive buggy. It's easy to see why it has received such high marks from its customers. It's incredibly light - the chassis and wheels weigh only 6.5kg and it's easy to build. In fact, I was able to complete the entire setup and running in less than five minutes, which is amazing given that it included a strapping of the fabric for the carrycot!
The seat is wide and comfortable for Annie who is just 12 months old. The recline lever was simple to use. There's a good amount of room in the basket too and I am awestruck by the fact that it has a zip-up compartment in the handle bar so you can keep your phone and keys safe!
The only slight downside is the handlebar is low, which could be a problem for taller parents. It's covered with soft, supple leather-like material, and is easy to clean.
Hauck Pushchair Runner
The Runner is for parents who enjoy exploring and are always on the move. The large pneumatic wheels are designed to be used on forest and field paths, and the front wheel can be swivelled and locked to give you more flexibility. The stroller also comes with a 5-point safety harness with an adjustable front bar that will keep your child safe during every trip. The parking brake will keep the stroller in place while you rest. The comfortable seat is easy to lower to a comfortable lying position, and the canopy opens up netting for optimum air circulation on hot days. The handle can be adjusted by more than 30cm, to fit mom or dad.
The Runner will accompany you on any adventure whether it's a leisurely run, a more strenuous hike, or a long-distance walk. It has a fully-flat lay-flat seat with suspension air wheels for a smooth ride. The front wheel is lockable for greater stability on narrow streets and crowded sidewalks and the stroller folds up easily to fit in car boot spaces and storage areas.
The Runner 2 is a bit more difficult to navigate for some parents than its predecessor. Also, the locking system (requiring two buttons on either on either side of the handlebar) isn't as user-friendly. The handlebars are a bit higher than some competitors, and therefore may not be suitable for smaller parents. However, this stroller is sturdy and a lot of fun, and is worth considering by families with active children.
Red Kite Push Me Pace
Red Kite's Pace is a great product from the affordable British brand. They are well-known for their simple, well-designed products that are essential to parents. It's their newest and most expensive addition to the budget-friendly stroller line. Similar to the Ickle Bubba Aurora or Yoyo, it is car seat-compatible, so it can be used from birth.
The new Pace has some fantastic design features, like a rose-gold tint on the chassis, hood, and stroller trims that truly distinguish it from. The grey, tan and cream fabrics used in the stroller as well as the car seat are super stylish and there is the option of adding a co-ordinating handle for the cover and bumper bar, too.
The stroller seat is used from birth up to a maximum weight of 22kg. It easily converts into a reversible 2-in-1 position, either facing the parent or facing the world. The stroller seat comes with multiple lie-back positions, soft padded legs rests, and an extended sun canopy with zip-off sections that are concealed with a view-through flap, and a retractable visor.
Furthermore, when folded it's Pace measures 56 x 43 x 32cm which is enough to qualify as hand luggage with Easyjet and Ryanair among other airlines. It's also easy to fold down, using two buttons on either side of the handlebar that you can click into and pop up.
Bugaboo Fox 5
Designed to be the ultimate all-terrain pushchair Bugaboo's newest Fox 5 promises to do it all. Its unique chassis comes with shorter wheel length which makes it easier to maneuver than its predecessor. I put it to the test with my two kids - a toddler and an eight-week-old - on rocky pavements as well as woodland walks that are grassy and even cobblestones.
The large puncture-proof wheels, which measure 22cm or 30cm in size - can handle different terrains. They also have an easy flap that opens or closes to let more air in should you need it this is a nice feature. It is a little bigger than some pushchairs, but it doesn't feel bulky or heavy when pushing it across bumpy surfaces.
The seat fabric is machine washable, and the faux leather grips and frame are easy to clean. It's also a lot quieter than many pushchairs and I felt confident using it in busy city streets. It has built-in accessory points that allow you to attach footmuffs and parasols and also changing bags or snack trays, and even snack tray. You can also use the hood to block wind and rain, although it's not waterproof. It's a single pram, however, you can also attach their Comfort Wheeled Board (not included) to give your child some extra leg room. It took about 20 minutes to assemble the bassinet, and the same amount of time to convert it to the seat.
